Two of the most popular are nbstat (Windows) and hyena.

nbtstat is a Windows command-line application that is installed as default.

Do not confuse with nbtscan (Linux).


Hyena is a Windows application. It includes a GUI.

Superscan is a free Windows-only proprietary graphical application developed by Foundstone, that was later acquired by McAffe. This tools is no longer available to be downloaded from McAffe web.

DeepNetScanner / NetBIOS Enumerator

DeepNetScanner, formerly known as NetBIOS Enumerator, is a free and open-source (FOSS) tool developed by a German developer under the pseudonym “King of C”.

It is released under a GPLv2 license.

nbtscan (Linux)

nbtscan is a command-line NetBIOS nameserver scanner for Linux and MS-DOS

Do not confuse with nbstat (Windows).

nmblookup (Linux)

nmblookup is a Linux command-line application. It is a NetBIOS over TCP/IP client used to lookup NetBIOS names.

It can be installed by typing:

sudo apt install samba-common-bin
