IT benchmarking is a technique to test the performance of a system or component.

Types of Benchmarking

Types of IT benchmarks:

  • Real-world benchmark
  • Synthetic benchmark

A real-world benchmark is measured in a real-world environment.

A synthetic benchmark is designed to measure the performance of an individual component in a controlled an specific environment. It is frequently used to test the maximum performance of a system.

Some synthetic benchmark tools are Dhrystone and Whetstone.
